Costumes and Attire

First, I will share all the costumes and attire I found to get us dressed for the occasion. I am including a large range from costumes to comfy sweaters and PJs so everyone has options and variety! I have something for the whole family including pets! I dressed up like Sarah at the beginning of the party and then took off my costume to throw on some our matching sweatshirts during the movie!! You will find all the links below.

My Mom went as Winifred, my best friend went as Mary, my Nana went as Binx, Dad went as Dadula, and my other three friends went as Danny, Max and the fourth Sanderson Sister! I loved all of our costumes!

(Side note: for all the shirts and sweatshirts, many of them come in different colors which you can choose from when you go to the links for each item.)

Makeup

All of the makeup you need to create Sanderson Sisters makeup looks can be found below. Since I’m dressing up like Sarah, I put together a tutorial for you as well!

For Mrs. Dennison’s Madonna Costume, hot glue the red yarn around the gold party hat cones and then pin them with the red safety pins to the red corset.

Decoration

I have so many ideas for decorations!

Firstly, in one section of my house, on my fireplace, I’ll be placing Hocus Pocus Signs, twinkle lights, candles, crystals, pumpkins, lanterns and more. Above the fireplace, I will also be hanging three black witch hats on invisible string. I was going to put floating candles on each side, but I decided to move them to the hallway when you enter the house. So, it will look like my Harry Potter Candle Decor all around the house with a Hocus Pocus spin on it. I will link everything I use(or similar) below.

Directions for the floating candles and hats:

  • For the Candles, first make sure to put the batteries in before tying the string.

  • Cut a long piece of invisible string, longer than you think you need so you can cut the excess off once it’s hung.

  • Wrap the string around the base of the frame and secure it with clear tape.

  • Cut another long piece of string and fold it in half, find the middle of the string, tape the middle of the string to the bottom of the candle and bring the sides of the string along the sides of the candle and up to the top to meet the first string you tied. Tape those strings to each side at the top to secure it. This creates a hammock for the candle to float straight.

  • With all the strings together, on a ladder or chair, use either a stable gun or clear command hooks to secure the strings onto the ceiling above.

  • Cut off any excess string

  • For the hats, you can thread the string through the top with a needle, or use a safety pin and secure to the ceiling like the candles. Easy Peasy.

  • Above are the floating candles in the hallway entrance.

  • Below is the is the floating witch hats.

More Decor

There’s much to choose from and I hope you find a few things that will be perfect for your watch party!

A few ideas and thoughts:

  • If you don’t want to buy an already made Black Flame candle, get a battery pillar candle and paint the flame black!

  • I’m getting signs and decor I know I’ll want to keep and use each fall. I love the wood signs because they are sturdy and will last much longer.

  • For prints or art, just get a frame and place it somewhere in the house as decoration. I feel that elevates the decor a bit more.

  • The full moon projector can be displayed on a wall somewhere and would also add that extra touch of magic.

Table Setting

If you’re having a fancy watch party with Dinner before or during the movie or if you want to decorate a table for your guests to watch at, these are perfect. I love the idea of the food table and/or a dinner table being draped in a beautiful runner with Chargers underneath lead free plates, linen napkins placed to the side or on top, and crystal glasses (I love the plum ones best). Throughout the middle of the table, on top of the runner, an eclectic blend of tapered candles, candlesticks, pumpkins, mini cauldrons with LED tea lights or a few mini balloon lights with cobwebs bunched up inside to simulate a brewing potion in them and mini hay bales. Maybe throw in a mini sign or two! You can also place these items around the house along with any of the decorations above and below!

Food ideas

“Oh, Cheese and Crust” Charcuterie Board

I love creating what I call Compassionate Charcuterie Boards. So creating a Hocus Pocus themed charcuterie is on my list for my watch party with a sign that says “Oh Cheese and Crust! He’s lost his head!” With a Billy Head next to the board. Either a cut out of his head, a plush or a framed photo of Billy. I will be creating the board you see below with all three sisters using my favorite foods too! You can find all my charcuterie boards over on My Compassionate Kitchen including all the items you need and food options.

(This is my practice Board.)

On the board: Miyokoes Mozarella cheese wheels for the heads, Plant Provisions Smokehouse Deli Slices for Winifred’s hair, Green olives, purple grapes and pretzel sticks cut in half for her body, blackberries for Mary’s hair, Strawberries for her body, Daiya pepperjack cheese diced up for Sarah’s hair, raspberries for her body, Smart Sweets fish for the lips cut into shapes (Winnie’s is also wrapped in Annie’s strawberry organic fruit tape to make her lips have a deeper red), and olive slices cut in half for the eyes. The only thing I forgot for this test board is Sarah’s mole. I will either use a little piece of olive or I will pipe on a tiny dot with blackberry jelly. Then I just filled the rest of the board with some Simple Mills Garlic Herb crackers and chocolate chip cookies, and Schars baguette cut up into slices.

  • My favorite cheese wheels to put on my boards are Miyokos cheese wheels. They are incredible.

  • The deli slices I use that are approved by the meat eaters in my family are Plant Provisions! They are sooooo yummy especially the Mesquite BBQ. That’s our favorite.

  • Below, use code MISSCHELSEADIANE for 20% off orders over $43 of Plant Provisions.

Damn Damn Double Damn Delicious Snacks!

Popcorn Station

Everyone loves popcorn for Movie Night, so making organic popcorn in a vintage popcorn machine draped in cobwebs and twinkle lights with Hocus Pocus themed popcorn boxes will be a huge hit. What I will be doing is getting brown popcorn boxes and placing Hocus Pocus stickers right in the middle of each box to make them more custom and fun. That way people can choose which character or sticker they want. I feel that will add a special touch to the evening. You can find my organic popcorn recipe here made with our vintage style popcorn machine. It’s delicious and so fun! Everything you’d need for these ideas are below including movie worthy candies that have less junk in them, but still damn damn double damn delicious!

On the snack table

  • Get a few small cauldrons to use as snack bowls and place small glass bowls or parchment paper inside them so it is still nontoxic and food safe. You can also place the cauldrons around the table having them hold things like straws, knives, etc.

  • I will be putting out my favorite cheddar puffs (linked below) with mini chalk sign that says “Dead Men’s Toes”.

  • A plate of fruit skewers with a sign saying “Shishka Babies.”

  • Brooms made with chocolate mini peanut butter cups and pretzel sticks.

  • A chocolate section with peanut butter cups and plant based Twix bars with a sign sayings “Made by a man named Clark”. Or “Why would the master give us candy?” These are the best Twix bars I’ve had! Everyone loves them.

  • Cupcakes with cupcake toppers.

  • Oh and you can’t forget “Mother’s Scorpion Pie!” I’ll link some pie recipes I found on Pinterest below and some scorpions you can place on top of the pie!

  • Classics like chips, dips, and guacamole. Our favorite brand of chips are Siette and Late July! They have so many amazing yummy snacks!

Apple Cider Recipe

The best spiced apple cider recipe! Brew a big pot of Apple Cider on the stove for a yummy beverage during your watch party while it fills the whole house with a lovely Autumn aroma. Mmmm.

Spiced Apple Cider by Anthony William

Ingredients:

  • 8 cups apple cider/juice (make or buy organic if possible)

  • 4 whole cloves

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 1/3 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 star anise

  • 1 inch piece fresh ginger

  • 1 orange, cut into slices

  • 1/4 cup cranberries

Directions:

Simmer the cider, whole cloves, ginger, nutmeg, star anise, and orange slices in a pot for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Strain the cider, top with fresh orange & apple slices & cranberries and serve to enjoy.

Once made, the spiced apple cider can also be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week and served cold, if desired.

Games and Activities

Hocus Pocus board game, Bingo, Black Magic, Pin the hat on Winnie and guessing games. Games are always fun to play before or after you watch the movie!

Guessing Game

The guessing game throughout the house is a really fun activity for your guests! Create different stations and at each station, they place their guesses. Whoever wins each one, gets a prize!

Put a certain amount of fake spiders into a bowl after counting them. Write down the amount so you don’t forget during the party. In a mini frame, write or print out “Guess how many spiders are in the bowl.” I have downloads for those here if you don’t want to make your own.

Place paper and pens in front of the guessing spots for guests to write down their guesses with their NAME on it and put in another bowl next to the guessing bowl. Do the same thing throughout the house with different guessing stations. By the popcorn station, do a bowl with popcorn kernels. In another area, do a bowl with candy. All those downloads can be found above. Buy some gift cards or gifts for the winners. At the end of the night, have someone look through the guesses, announce the winners and give them their gifts! We did this at my Nana’s Birthday and everyone loved it! Be sure to let them know to put their names on it!

Pin the hat on Winifred

Pop the Hocus Pocus poster in a frame, hang it somewhere, blindfold, spin (or not) and have everyone place a witch hat sticker on Winnie! You can choose a different witch for the same concept. I also found broom stickers in case you’d like to put your own spin on it based on what’s on the poster! Whoever gets the closest, wins a prize like an Amazon gift card, the Hocus Pocus game, a plushie, notebook, blanket, any of the shirts above or a crystal! You choose!

Raffle

A fun addition to the party is attaching a double ticket to your invites or give to your guests when they arrive. Have them put their name on it and place their ticket into a bowl to do a raffle at the end of the night! Whoever wins gets the grand prize for the night. A themed gift basket is always a go to. Fill it with any of the items on the blog above or below. For example, the Hocus Pocus games, a mug, blanket, journal, sparkling cider or wine in a Hocus Pocus bottle cover, plushies, a shirt or sweatshirt, and anything else you see here!

Black Magic

Watch the video below to learn how to play this party riddle game. For best viewing, watch in full screen!

Invitations

Send an invite in the mail, through email or text! Whichever you prefer.

  • As mentioned above, a fun touch to the invites is attaching a double ticket to the invite. Have them put their name on it and put their ticket into a bowl to do a raffle at the end of the night! If you’re using a mobile invite, give your guests their ticket on arrival.

Party Favors

(If you are coming to my watch party (ahem Heather, Nana…you all know who you are. SKIP this part haha!) Please and thank you. I love you.)

Sending your guests home with some goodies is one of my favorite touches. I gathered up a few ideas I will be using myself and tried to find options for different tastes. You can use the items from the raffle gift basket above as well along with anything from the blog!

Here are the ideas I have for my gift bags above.

  • I have a Instax Polaroid printer and an Instax camera. I love the idea of taking photos on the Polaroid and on our phones to print during the watch party and then they are surprised with a mini frame or frame magnet to put those photos in at the end of the night.

  • A broom pen.

  • A mini cauldron filled with lavender epsom salts, tied with twine and sealed with a wax seal!

  • Custom made stemless glasses.

  • Some yummy goodies like the rice crispy recipe below or some simple mills cookies or brownies wrapped in craft paper and a Hocus Pocus sticker and twine.
